Day 34 5/2/2017

Cruising on the Amazon - steamy weather, rain forest climate, hot but cloudy.   Lots of air conditioned entertainment for the not so keen on the hot and humid.

Art - seascape now completely finished

Singing - reading between the lines the grumblings of the choir have reached the choir leaders and efforts are now being made to please us all, although I am irritated by the whole thing, as I only wanted to sing! That said we do seem to be making really tuneful progress.

Overnight we became aware of the activity of Amazon insects.  In the restaurant they have all been "dealt with" and are mainly dead, although I have't seen anyone using insect spray to kill them. Out on the decks there are some large black and white butterflies and other flying insects looking like dragon flies. Mozi guard now standard, and the Deet is ready to go.  Curtains are drawn and balcony/window lights are off as advised from dusk to dawn 6 p.m.-6 a.m.

This afternoon we crossed the mouth of the Bocca de Valeria, a place where small P&O ships used to tender years ago.  The locals used to build a dock especially for the ship, greet and make a fuss of passengers.  Due to limitations of the size of the village, its not possible for the Oriana to go, so we will be going to Parintins on our way back from Manaus instead.
