The mood of the cruise changed from a touristy sun holiday in the Caribbean, to explorer mode. Today we sailed down the western Atlantic with the objective of crossing the Amazon Bar (12 midnight). This timing is critical because of the tide. Anti- Malarials and mozzy vigilance have started. It's hotter, cloudier, dry (as in not raining) but the air feels more humid. That'll be the tropics then!

Singing
Two new songs one for the men, Nothing like a Dame and one for the women I'm Gonna Wash that Man Right Outta My Hair. There seems to be a bit of tension emerging between the vocalists' leaders. It feels like a communication issue on their part, but it might be competition and ego, given that they are all performers in a tough world.
Today we had what I like to call Lunch "out". this means that instead of the free for all buffet, we had a quiet, leisurely meal in the Peninsular and met some lovely people, one of them a singer.
This afternoon's talk by Pam Rhodes talk was actually about the Songs themselves - Pam gave us the background stories about the popular hymns, and got everyone singing along to their favourites. It was really moving.
Tonight's evening meal we shared with with two couples, one of whom has become more familiar over the cruise - Peter, I think, goes to art. One couple, Brits living in Spain, talked a lot about the joys of crown green and indoor bowling. Actually much more interesting than it sounds.
In the Theatre Royal Tonight was a Pianist/Comedian "Fingers" who not only tells jokes and does headstands whilst playing piano. He impersonates famous popular pianists from the 50's and 60's like Winnifred Atwwell, Russ Conway, Les Dawson to name just three I can remember. He was good, but like a lot of variety performance artists I do still find them a bit boring. However these performances are only 45 minutes long, so even bad performances aren't long. And he wasn't bad.
There's a lot of excitement about the Amazon, literature to the cabins, documentaries about the rainforest on TV and a few rules....... doors closed, lights off, curtains closed after dark when possible.
