Day 16 18/1/2017 Key West

Overnight we sailed to Key West, another short hop to the most Southerly point of Florida
We had booked the Yellow Train-Bus  which took us around the town 11-12 midday followed by a visit to a market and our first taste of the famous and recommended Key Lime Pie, which we had with coffee.  Like the richest of rich cheese cakes! Delicious, and really satisfying for a fudge lover.

This part of the world really is good.  I always imagined Florida would be all about Disney and time shares, but it's much more.  It's educating me about wildlife, about American history and part of the culture we don't see on Newsnight.

After our excursion, and my walking limits, we came back to the ship for the afternoon and did our now familiar afternoon activities, or in my case my supine inactivity.  I am familiar with all the t.v. programmes and am also enjoying watching and listening to ship speakers recordings of the sessions we've missed.

Tonight we had a bit of a downer on the eating  companions front.  We dined with two very irritated women from Doncaster - not at all nice. They were critical of all the lovely food, the service, the freedom dining, in fact everything.  One in particular gave me the impression that she considered herself "better than this".   Put me in the frame of mind that I wanted to go to club dining to avoid a repeat performance.   But we decided to persevere and hoped we wouldn't have to eat with them again.  Food was lovely, by the way.  Service a bit slow, but it's fine as long as you're not trying to get somewhere like the theatre.

We had an early night without any theatre entertainment.  It's funny how we didn't manage to lift our own spirits after that dinner.  Two definitely to avoid!
